Breaking The Glass Podium

Sara Jobin made history in 2004 as the first woman to conduct on the mainstage subscription series at San Francisco Opera.

Despite the male dominated world of conducting, Jobin states that her determination in pursuing this dream was not to break a glass ceiling, but rather to follow her passion. During the panel's candid discussion, she stated,

"There will always be prejudice and if you look for it you will find it. But you know, you can choose not to focus on it."
eClips was invited to capture comments from Jobin and other female leaders during a panel discussion of "Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling". The panel was part of a a week-long conference sponsored by the Harvard-Radcliffe Women's Leadership Project in September 2006.

To hear Sara Jobin's thoughts on the "glass ceiling" and the challenges and rewards of working as a conductor, listen to her comments in eClips.
